- about the project
Challenge
The project involved restoring and waterproofing an exterior elevated deck system that had experienced long-term moisture intrusion beneath the tile surface. The existing waterproof assembly had deteriorated, allowing water penetration into the substrate and surrounding structural areas. Because the finished surface would receive natural stone tile, the waterproofing system required proper slope correction, flashing integration, expansion detailing, and a durable membrane capable of handling exterior exposure and long-term movement.
A traditional hot mop waterproofing system was selected to create a continuous waterproof barrier beneath the deck assembly. Proper preparation and detailing were critical to ensure long-term protection and prevent future water intrusion beneath the natural stone finish.
- Demolition of compromised tile and substrate
- Hot mop waterproof membrane installation
- Surface slope correction and drainage preparation
- Preparation for exterior natural stone tile installation
- what we did
Solution
Our team completed a full exterior deck waterproofing restoration using a multi-layer hot mop waterproofing membrane system designed for long-term exterior protection. The project included demolition of damaged materials, substrate preparation, flashing integration, slope correction, and installation of the hot asphalt waterproof membrane to create a seamless moisture barrier throughout the deck system.
After waterproofing installation and flood testing, we prepared the surface for natural stone tile installation using exterior-rated setting materials and proper expansion detailing. The natural stone finish was carefully installed to provide long-term durability, weather resistance, and an upgraded architectural appearance while maintaining proper drainage and waterproof protection beneath the tile assembly.
